My Dedication
I am dedicated to providing the highest quality and long lasting Fine Art Prints possible. From the click of the shutter to the delivery of the print to you, I am the one making all of the creative decisions. The final prints are representative of what I saw when I raised the camera to my eye to capture the image.
My job is to create a Fine Art Print that conveys the event, mood, action and essence of the scenes which unfold in front of my camera lens. Through the process of film development, scanning of the original slide into a digital format, working with the image with digital management software and choosing the correct combination of printer settings and photographic paper, I create what best represents what my eye saw in the field.
I am both an artist and a documentary messenger. This means that I don't just snap a photo and print it. I create the final image by making critical decisions involving color, lighting, composition and content. Every bit of image management that I perform is intended to render a combination of the pure image that I photographed and an expression of the message that I am trying to convey.
The Printer and the Paper
My photographic art is offered as Archival Pigment Prints. This means that my prints are created using a pigment ink printer and have an archival rating of a minimum of 75 years upward to 200 years. Of course how long your photographic art lasts is dependent upon a variety of factors including framing styles, exposure to direct sunlight, humidity and other environmental factors.
Suffice it to say that I am creating prints that, if cared for properly, will last for at least 75 years and can last up to 200 years.
Currently I am printing on Epson Archival Fine Art papers using an Epson Stylus Pro 7800 printer and their new Ultrachrome K3 Pigment Inks. Depending on the look that I am trying to achieve I may use a variety of Epson papers. Primarily I use Epson Premium Semigloss and Epson Premium Luster Papers.
Why I Print My Own Work
This is simple - Control. I am constantly working to improve the techniques and printing process involved in creating my Fine Art Prints. As technologies and materials improve, I want to be able to immediately implement any new processes that will yield a more pleasing and lasting product. Rather than send my work off to be printed by a large photo house, I create all prints myself here in my studio.
